YOU'VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE...
Use the "Sound Source Ranges Chart" to improve your audio system settings. Set your equalizer to eliminate primary ring mode frequencies. Match the ring mode frequency to the piano key (by ear) and relate the note to EQ frequency that needs to be cut. These charts provide clues for setting board tone controls (mid - sweep center frequency?), how loud the sound should be and many other audio adjustments. IMPORTANT: The operator mixing sound for a listening audience must be in the room with the audience, hearing what the audience hears, in order to properly mix and set the sound levels! Click on "Sound Source Ranges Chart" to view a large image of sound source ranges.

The Electro-Acoustic sound system must comply with normal hearing requirements. People with hearing losses will not necessarily hear better with a well designed sound system. Young men have the best hearing and most middle aged adults have some hearing losses. Special stand alone assistive listening systems should be provided for hard-of-hearing listeners. The linked Normal Hearing Range Chart graphically shows normal hearing and plotting SPL Vs. Hz for speech and music programs. Generally, at medium SPL our ear is most sensitive around 500Hz. At high SPL hearing tends to be flat across the audible frequency spectrum. The ear makes a very sophisticated adjustment, self-protection, between quiet sounds and loud sounds, a nonlinear response. Audio meters on a mixing console measure linear power and cannot replace the operators ears when setting mix levels. View a detailed image of the "Sound Source Ranges Chart".
