SELECTING A CORRECT VIDEO SCREEN SIZE
As an industry production standard, screen text (alpha numeric characters) information is sized to be read at a distance of 8 times the screen height. Therefore the screen height is calculated as the viewer distance (V) divided by 8. The screen width is calculated as 4/3 times the screen height. The distance V is measured diagonally from the side of the screen to the most distant viewer. For example, if V = 48', the screen height (H) should be 6', and the width (W) should be 8' (H = 48'/8, and W = 4/3 x 6). Refer to the diagram on Selecting a Correct Video Screen Size as a visual reference.
